Toucan chicks are very vulnerable when they are first born; in fact, when they hatch, their eyes are closed and their skin is bare. They are dependent on their parents for survival. Around three weeks of age, their eyes open and their feathers begin to grow in. Toucans reach maturity around 3 – 4 years old.
