The Uppermost Layer of the Ocean Is the Epipelagic Zone.

The Epipelagic Zone is the uppermost zone of the ocean. It is sometimes called the sunlight zone because light penetrates this area. It extends from the surface of the water to 660 ft. (200 m) below the surface. Sunlight heats this layer and creates temperature variations during different seasons and at different latitudes.
