The Mesopelagic Zone refers to a region of the ocean that extends from 660 ft. (200 meters) to 3,300 ft. (1,000 meters) deep. It receives a very small amount of sunlight and what light does reach it is very faint. It also experiences the greatest temperature variations of any oceanic zone because it contains the thermocline, a highly dynamic, transitional layer.
