Male Scarlet Tanagers sport bright red plumage and black wings in the spring and summer months. In late summer, these birds molt into their winter plumage, changing over to greenish feathers in place of vivid red. Female Scarlet Tanagers sport relatively dull, yellow-green feathers and darker wings.
