Sandhill Cranes Leave the Nest Right After Birth.

Sandhill Cranes leave the nest within a day of hatching and begin following their parents around the marsh. Both parents will help feed them at first. Eventually, they learn to feed themselves, and around 65 – 75 days of age, they take their first flight. Young Sandhill Cranes stay with their parents for their first 9 – 10 months of life and accompany them during migration.
