Sand cats hunt by staying close to the ground and using their superior hearing to detect prey just underneath the surface. When they hear potential prey burrowing underground, sand cats rapidly dig until they expose and capture their prey. After capturing and killing their prey, sand cats sometimes cover it again and return to the area later to eat.
