The Bathypelagic Zone refers to a zone of the ocean that stretches from a depth of 1,000 - 4,000 meters (3,300 - 13,100 ft.). The pressure in this zone is extreme. At depths of 4,000 meters (13,100 ft.), the pressure reaches 5,850 pounds per square inch! Incredibly, sperm whales are still able to dive down to this depth to find food.
