Octopus Ink Is a Powerful Defense Mechanism.

Octopus ink doesn’t just help hide an octopus from predators. It also actively harms predators with a compound called tyrosinase, which causes a blinding irritation in predators’ eyes. It also confuses most sea creatures’ sense of smell and taste. In fact, their ink is so potent that octopuses who don’t escape their own ink cloud can die.
