Io’s Surface Changes By Up to 330 Feet.

Because Jupiter’s moon Io is subjected to tremendous tidal forces from nearby moons Europa and Ganymede, its surface can bulge up and down (or in and out) by as much as 330 feet! This phenomenon is similar to the rising and falling of oceanic tides on Earth, but on a much larger scale and on solid ground rather than water.
