Male Indigo Buntings change color depending on the light. They all have impressive blue plumage that’s particularly noticeable in the summertime, but it’s not due to pigment — these birds get their color from the diffraction of light on their feathers. In darker lighting, they lose their glorious blue hues and appear brownish.
