Impatiens are native to eastern Africa and grow naturally along waterways and marshland boundaries from Kenya to Mozambique. They have now been naturalized in many parts of North America, Australia, and several Pacific islands. These popular flowers propagate easily (or, perhaps, "impatiently"), releasing their seeds upon the slightest touch, hence their name.
