Iapetus Has Unusual Reflectivity.

Saturn’s moon Iapetus has a leading hemisphere with a reflectivity (or albedo) of just .03 to .05, making it extremely dark, but its trailing hemisphere is much brighter, with an albedo of .5 to .6. Scientists believe the difference is caused by thermal segregation made possible by Iapetus’ extremely slow rotation and an influx of dark material from an external source in the past.
