House Finches Have Accents.

House Finches have “accents” and have been shown to communicate using local “dialects.” In California, studies have shown that the standard male’s song lasts for 2 seconds and includes 4 - 26 syllables. House Finches in Wisconsin and Colorado, however, communicate using longer songs that include more syllables. And in New York, House Finches exhibit various distinct dialects; in fact, New York males’ songs differ noticeably within just one square mile!
