Gibbon couples have a “song.” Paired gibbons perform duets, a series of vocal cries combining their individual mating calls into a single song. The song becomes intrinsic to their relationship and is usually sung during important moments, such as during mutual grooming, or when the couple is temporarily separated by distance.
