Foliated Metamorphic Rocks Have "Stripes."

Foliated metamorphic rocks are strongly banded or foliated, the latter of which means that a parallel arrangement of certain mineral grains gives the rock a "striped" look. Foliation occurs when pressure squeezes the flat or elongate minerals within a rock so they become aligned. Granite gneiss and biotite schist are examples of foliated metamorphic rocks.
