Fish Don’t Sleep.

Fish do not generally “sleep” in the same way that mammals do, but rather, they enter a state of “suspended animation.” Research shows that in this state, they may reduce their activity and metabolism while remaining alert for signs of danger. Some fish float in place while resting, some wedge themselves into a secluded spot (usually in mud or coral), and some locate a nest to rest in.
