False Water Cobras are rear-fanged snakes that are equipped with a Duvernoy's gland rather than a traditional venom gland, so their saliva is not venomous. To inject their toxin, these snakes must chew their prey, not just bite them, as they lack the injection apparatus that front-fanged snakes possess. Because of this, these snakes typically bite with a slashing motion to inflict a wound and do not typically rely on envenomation when threatened.
