Diatoms Rely on Ocean Currents to Move.

Diatoms are a group of phytoplankton that do not have tails (flagella), but rather rely on ocean currents to help them move through the water. Like their counterparts dinoflagellates, diatoms also have shells. However, diatoms’ shells are rigid in structure, made of interlocking parts, and composed of a different substance than the shells of dinoflagellates.
