Although they live in the harsh Andes Mountains, Chilean Chinchillas (Chinchilla lanigera) are selective folivores and granivores — in other words, they’re quite picky! They prefer to eat plants with a high fiber and low lignin content. Notably, their diet also changes with the seasons, but their most common source of nutrition is the perennial Chilean needlegrass. They also eat ferns, succulent bromeliads, and cacti.
