Two of the three living Cassowary species have wattles, or pouches of skin that hang from their necks. They are often quite colorful and can be either blue, red, gold, purple, or white. While their exact purpose is unknown, scientists think they may indicate a cassowary’s mood or help them relay social cues to other members of their species.
