Calla Lily “Flowers” Are Actually Bracts.

Calla Lilies have prominent white trumpets. While many people mistake these structures for flowers, they are actually specialized bracts (specialized leaves) called spathes. Each spathe supports and protects a single yellow spike. The spike is where Calla Lily flowers are actually located — in fact, each spik is covered in tiny yellow flowers. The male, pollen-producing flowers grow at the top of the spike while the female flowers grow lower down.
