Burrowing Owls will often run into their burrows when they feel threatened. To scare off their predators (which include Horned Owls, hawks, badgers, foxes, and some domestic pets), they make a hissing sound or rattling noise to imitate rattlesnakes, whose burrows they often repurpose.
