Asian Elephants have 6 sets of teeth and all of them are present at birth. Each successive set is larger and lasts longer than the previous set. To accommodate this, Asian Elephants’ skulls grow continually throughout their lives. Their teeth are replaced in a horizontal order, similar to a conveyor belt — worn teeth move forward and either break, fall out, or are swallowed, then the newer teeth move forward to take their place.
