American Wigeons Are (Mostly) Herbivorous.

American Wigeons feed mostly on aquatic plants such as the upper parts of wigeon grass (which is named after them), duck sedge, duckweed, and cattails. They also eat various seeds. However, during breeding season, they are not completely herbivorous and will consume insects and small aquatic invertebrates like caddisflies, damselflies, midges, beetles, mollusks, and crawdads for the added protein.
